The owners of Gray Kennels & Security have been training dogs since 1979. We believe using positive reinforcement is the most effective way to train dogs. The staff at Gray Kennels & Security are ready to train every size, shape and breed of dog from Chihuahuas to Newfoundlands! We offer several different training options and levels.
All obedience classes include basic vocal commands and hand signals. Leash training includes training your dog to walk on a leash without pulling . Your dog will be happier after the classes knowing what is expected of him or her!
As mentioned previously, we offer more than one option for training to better suit the individual needs of our clients.
Basic Obedience and Leash Training:
Commands include: sit, stay, heel, down, and come, all while on a leash.
These classes meet every Saturday from 10a.m. to 11a.m. In these classes, you will learn how to train your dog, as well as how to maintain his or her training. You will play a hands-on role in your dog's training, helping to build an effective bond between the two of you. Appointments for new clients can be made by calling our office.
Boarded In-Kennel Training:
In-house training classes are an option preferred by many, especially those owner who may not have been able to find the time to train, but care enough for their dog to desire training. With In-house training, we board your dog in our kennel facilities for two weeks, and provide one-on-one training, giving your dog the time required to achieve the desired results. This type of training also provides you the convenience of a well trained dog, without the cost of valuable time required to achieve this goal.
We use Scripture and the Holy Bible to train you and your dog. I have learned to use God’s word, not mine.
If you would like for Lester, Schwana, and our staff to come to your church or organization to teach dog training, contact our office via phone or email.
Lester and wife Schwana started training dogs in 1979 under the name of Westwood Kennels. They have also taught classes at Tazewell, Virginia College, Milligan College, Greeneville Humane Society, Johnson City Parks and Recreation Center, and Southwest Virginia Community College, as well as provided pet therapy at nursing homes, rehabs, and schools. Lester is a master dog trainer. He also has a doctorate degree form United Graduate College and Seminary, class of 2008; meaning that he has the ability to teach others.
In the beginning God created animals – dogs, male and female-, “And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: the livestock, the creatures that move along the ground, and the wild animals, each according to its kind.” And it was so. God made the wild animals according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.” (Genesis 1:24-25, NIV). Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” (Genesis 1:28 NKJV).
One of my principles is that a person who trains people, children or dogs that doesn’t have love for them when they give correction (which is needed), then the correction could be determined as cruelty and abuse. “My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline, and do not resent his rebuke, because the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in.” (Proverbs 3:11-12, NIV) We are supposed to learn from others mistakes. When Billy Graham was asked his opinion, he would always say “according to the Word of God…”, scripture, and verse and let God defend his word.
How big is God? How powerful? Isaiah 40 says God is always with us, and Job 10, know that nothing is impossible with you. That’s right, as big and powerful as God is; he still knows your name and everything about you.
What about the big flood? You know Noah and the Ark; it was plenty big enough for two of every species which God sent to the boat, male and female. “You are to bring into the ark two of all living creatures, male and female, to keep them alive with you. Two of every kind of bird, of every kind of animal and of every kind of creature that moves along the ground will come to you to be kept alive.” (Genesis 6:19-20 NIV). I think all of the dogs, wolf to poodle, came from these two. Therefore, any dog can be trained.
